FAQs

Manually Installing the Video Professor CD-ROMs

(Only necessary if you do not have a Video Professor icon on the desktop and the CD has not automatically started.)

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Click Run.
  3. Click on Browse.
  4. In the upper left-hand corner, change the “Look in:” box to view the CD-ROM drive.  (It has either a picture of a CD-ROM next to it, or the Video Professor logo and the name of the lesson.)
  5. Double-click the item ICON.EXE. It has a Video Professor logo on it.
  6. You should now be back to the Run window. Click OK.
  7. After a moment, you will see the Video Professor End User License Agreement. If you agree with and accept the terms and conditions of the Agreement after reading it, click Agree.  This Agreement governs all Video Professor CD-ROM lessons furnished to you, including releases, revisions, and upgrades.   If you do not agree with the terms and conditions of the License Agreement, click Quit and simply remove the CD-ROM from the CD drive, and promptly call and return the package to Video Professor, Inc., 2590 W. 2nd Ave., Unit 15, Denver, CO 80219.
  8. If the CD-ROM doesn’t start running at this time, you will notice a Video Professor icon on your desktop. Double-click that icon.
  9. You are now ready to begin learning. Enjoy your learning experience!

Illegal Operation

If you are getting an error message that says “Illegal Operation,” take the CD-ROM out of the drive and restart your computer.

  1. Check the CD for any scratches or smudges. If there is something on the CD, wipe it with a soft, dry, perfume-free, oil-free cloth.
  2. Place the CD-ROM back in the drive and try again.
  3. If you get the error again, take the CD-ROM out and restart your computer. Call Technical Support at 1-800-557-6233. If a Technical Support Representative is not available, please leave a message and a representative will call you back.
  4. If there is a scratch on the CD-ROM, please call Customer Service at 1-800-519-4110 and notify a Customer Service Representative to receive a replacement.

No Sound

If you are not hearing sound with the Video Professor CD, try the following:

  1. First make sure your speakers are on and the volume is turned up. You may need to adjust your volume controls.
    • Click on the Start button.
    • Go to Programs.
    • In the submenu on the right, go to Accessories.
    • In that submenu, go to Multimedia (Win 95) or Entertainment (Win 98/00/Me/XP).
    • Now, click on Volume Control.
    • Turn Wave and Master Volume all the way up.
    • Make sure that all of the Mute boxes are empty and all the Select boxes have a check mark in them.
    • After doing this, click on the “X” in the upper right-hand corner to close the Volume Control window.
    • Try the lessons again.
  2. If you are still experiencing problems, call Technical Support at 1-800-557-6233. If a Technical Support Representative is not available, please leave a message and a representative will call you back

Resizing the Video Professor screen

Due to graphic detail in the CD-ROM, you are unable to resize the lesson screen. It will distort the graphics.

Recommended System Requirements

Video Professor CD-ROM software has been tested and approved for use with Windows 95 or higher operating systems. In order to access and use Video Professor CD-ROMs, you are required to have a 300 megahertz or higher processor (166 MHz—266 MHz minimum supported; may limit performance). The type of processor must be in the Intel Pentium/Celeron family or in the AMD K6/Athlon family.  Memory must be 128 MB of RAM or higher (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance). Computer system ought to include the following:  4 megahertz SGVA video card; 16 bit color with a display of 800 x 600 pixels or better; sound card equivalent to a PCI sound blaster; 32x CD-ROM or higher (16x minimum supported; may limit performance).  Program runs from CD-ROM; no hard drive space is required; some lessons have student files that will need to be saved to the end user’s computer; space is determined by the size of the lesson files.
